Computer Control : Knex workshop

Timetabling

The in school session will run for a complete day and will involve children working in teams designing and building a model that can be controlled via a computer programme written by the pupils. The groups will be introduced to control boxes and be given the opportunity to explore computer programming and the influence it has on our daily lives. The exact timing is flexible enough to fit around most break and lunchtime commitments. The session is designed to meet all the requirements of embedding ICT within the DT curriculum, with children designing their own models and writing their own programmes K’Nex is a very adaptable construction kit that will allow the pupils to experiment with structures, gears and other mechanisms while modelling their design. The children will use laptops connected to control boxes and use the ‘Control Station’ software to quickly programme their models.
