FUTURE TOWN: a show from TIMEZONES for KS2

An interactive show where children work as a team to design the town of tomorrow.

The pupils become pioneering adventurers, training to build a city of the future. They will have to learn surveying skills to help them choose the perfect place to build their new home, and then use design skills to work out how to build it using futuristic methods and materials.

This project covers a wide range of attainment targets from the Design & Technology and Geography sections of the National Curriculum. Volunteers take part in a series of experiments, which help the whole school make decisions about their town of the future.

AUDIENCE: KS2                 DURATION: 50 minutes                 COST: £120+VAT

Learning Outcomes

Pupils will:

  • Look at the issue of population increase and sustainability
  • Use basic mapping symbols
  • Learn how to survey the landscape and assess weather conditions
  • Look at landscape features and discuss where best to site a new community
  • Look at different industries and their impact on the environment
  • Gain an understanding of a simple building process
  • Choose the best materials for their buildings
  • Decide if their collective decisions were sound
