The Challenge
Children are provided with an introduction to the exciting world of engineering by inviting them to produce a solution for a given problem. This is then created using KNEX. Children will work in pairs where ever possible and the winning team in each school will be invited to represent their school at the final.
The session will run for half a day with the pupils working in pairs on the design and construction of their solution. The exact timing is flexible to fit around the schools break and lunchtime. Typically the session will last for 2 hours starting with and introduction giving the pupils an hour to create their own designs using the KNEX construction kit.
KNEX is a very adaptable construction kit that allows the pupils to experiment with structures, gears and other mechanisms while modeling their design.
The winning team will be chosen on their ability to work together, solve problems, produce a working model and communicate their ideas to each other and the judge. The winning team will be invited to attend the Gloucestershire KNEX final.
A member of the STEMworks team will run the session in school and bring enough kit for each pair of children. The maximum group size is 36.
If you would like to book a KNEX workshop please complete an enquiry form and a member of the STEMworks team will contact you to arrange a suitable date.
