With alternative energy sources being explored worldwide, here is your chance to join in. Children will explore how wind turbines work, and how different designs alter how much energy is generated. See how the shape, number and angle of blades changes the effectivness of the turbine.
During the whole day workshops pupils will explore how electricity is generated from the wind power, how the design and position of the structures may affect the efficiency of the turbines, what influence the number, shape and angle of the blades will have on the turbines and look at how much energy their models can produce.
During the half day workshop, children will still look at many aspects of wind generation but will be provided with pre assembled structures to use.
During the workshop, children will work in groups of three to design build and test working models of a wind turbine, assessing the effectiveness of their design and making modifications as necessary.
All models will be tested in our wind tunnels, and pupils will measure the electrical outputs from their models.
The workshop will be delivered in your school by one of the STEMworks team who will bring along all the equipment and materials needed.
If you are interested in running this workshop please either complete the attached enquiry form and return to STEMworks, or contact STEMworks direct 01452 865028. We will be happy to discuss suitable dates and times etc with you.
Key Stage 2 Maximum 36 pupils.
