Developing an inclusive classroom to support all children

Objectives

·         To increase participant’s understanding of factors contributing to general learning difficulties and how to appropriately identify these

·         To identify the importance of the general classroom environment in promoting the learning of all children

·         To consider appropriate strategies to support children who have general learning difficulties

The day will include opportunities for theoretical and experiential learning, including time for discussion with, and learning from,  other participants.  Time will also be given to plan the next steps on return to school using the information gained from the day.

Course Tutor :  Sarah Gothard

Sarah worked as an Educational Psychologist for a local authority for 8 years before setting up her independent practice in 2010. She has worked in all types of educational setting from pre-school to sixth form provision.  Her particular areas of expertise are critical incidents, childhood bereavement and trauma, and promoting emotional literacy. In addition, Sarah has carried out some local research into self-harming behaviour in adolescents, resulting in a national publication. 

Sarah is a Chartered Educational Psychologist who focuses on promoting social, emotional and behavioural development and the general well being and learning of children.  She is registered with the Health Professionals Council (HPC) and is a graduate member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and Association of Educational Psychologists (AEP).
