Solving mathematical problems in the Early Years and Key Stage 1

22 March, 2012

Who is this training for?

This course is designed to equip teachers in the Early Years and Key Stage 1 with the knowledge and confidence to tackle problem solving effectively in their mathematics sessions.

During this course, we will

  • have a greater understanding of the different types of mathematical problems
  • consider and develop effective approaches for teaching and learning to ensure that problem solving becomes part of the repertoire of strategies used to develop mathematical understanding
  • analyse of a range of teaching approaches to answer the question – is this the best way for children to learn about …?
  • examine what differentiation and progression looks like in problem solving

Teachers will leave the day feeling inspired to use problem solving approaches more frequently in their sessions.
