Suitable for: years 5-6
Student numbers: up to 36
Workshop length: half day
This hand-on and engaging workshop helps students develop an appreciation of shape and their properties. As part of the workshop students use K’nex to construct a variety of shapes and consider their properties, such as angles and lines of symmetry.
If a team can successfully build and analyse their K’nex shapes they win paper which they can then use in the construction of origami sonobe units. Will they gain enough paper to build a cube, dodecahedron or even an icosahedron? They then need to assess their origami shape considering the number of faces, edges and vertices and check Euler’s polyhedra formula.
