Bristol Primary STEM Challenge 2025 Final Lights Up Badminton School
On 16th June, Badminton School’s modern halls and leafy quads set the stage for an unforgettable celebration of young minds in action: the Bristol Primary STEM Challenge Final. More than just a competition, this year’s grand finale brought together talented teams from 20 schools across Bristol and North Somerset, capping off months of dedicated in-school workshops and community collaboration.
Year-Round Workshops Fuel Innovation
Over the past academic year, more than 1,000 primary pupils have taken part in our in-school STEM workshops, exploring design principles, basic physics, and teamwork through interactive challenges. Each session built toward today’s showcase, equipping regional finalists with the tools and confidence to tackle their bridge-building mission
For the final challenge, students were tasked with designing and constructing a bridge that could span a standard tray—using only K’nex components. Armed with rods and connectors, teams balanced structural integrity, material efficiency, and aesthetic appeal. From truss-inspired frameworks to weight-distribution innovations, the young engineers demonstrated remarkable problem-solving skills.
“This workshop is an excellent opportunity for children to see the practical application of STEM skills in real life scenarios whilst also having fun and building teamwork, resilience and problem solving skills.”
After rigorous judging—evaluating strength tests, design ingenuity, and the students engineering problem solving skills—we’re proud to announce:
Champions: Henleaze Junior School
Runners-Up: SS Peter and Paul Primary School
Huge congratulations to these teams and heartfelt thanks to every student, teacher, and parent who supported their journey throughout the year.
Thank You to Our Hosts and Judges
This event wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of Badminton School, who opened their campus and provided invaluable logistical support. We’re equally grateful to our volunteer judges, whose expertise and encouragement inspired students to push boundaries.
