During the summer term, STEMworks visited Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School and The Cotswold School to run a Discovery Day funded by the British Science Association’s CREST Awards; a scheme that inspires young people to take on the role of scientists or engineers through hands on investigations.
The aim of the Discovery Days was to kick-start a project from one of the Government’s Grand Challenge themes. This project could then be further developed by the students following the workshop and entered into the Youth Industrial Strategy Competition.
During the Discovery Day workshops, students were tasked with designing an invention to solve a local sustainability problem. All students who participated in the Discovery Day received a recognised CREST Discovery Award at the end of the day.
