Gloucestershire K’nex Challenge
Suitable for: Years 4 – 6
Student number: Up to 36
Workshop length: 2-3 hours
Students are provided with an introduction to the exciting world of engineering by using K’Nex to produce a solution for a given problem. A winning team will be chosen from each school based on their ability to work together, solve problems, produce a working model and communicate their ideas to each other and the judge. The team with the best solution will be invited to the Gloucestershire K’Nex final.
The session will run for half a day with pupils working in pairs on the design and construction of their solution. The exact timing is flexible to fit around the schools break and lunchtime. Typically the session will last for 2 hours starting with and introduction giving the pupils an hour to create their own designs using the K’Nex construction kit.
K’Nex is a very adaptable construction kit that allows the pupils to experiment with structures, gears and other mechanisms while modelling their design.
STEMworks will be visiting schools from September onwards to deliver a half day workshop for up to 36 KS2 students, where a team will be chosen to represent the school at the final during the summer term 2022. CLICK HERE to register for this exciting challenge.
