Young Innovators Impress at Primary STEM Challenge Gloucestershire Finals

The Gloucestershire Primary STEM Challenge (K'nex) Finals delivered a day full of creativity, teamwork and engineering excellence as pupils from across the county gathered at Renishaw's Innovation Centre to put their STEM skills to the ultimate test.

With two finals taking place in a single day, the event provided a fantastic showcase of the talent, enthusiasm and problem-solving abilities of primary school pupils. Working collaboratively in teams, students applied their engineering and design skills to tackle the challenge, demonstrating innovative thinking and impressive teamwork throughout.

From the moment the competition began, the atmosphere was filled with excitement as teams worked against the clock to develop their ideas, overcome obstacles and present their solutions. Judges were impressed not only by the quality of the designs but also by the resilience, communication and creativity displayed by the participants.

In the morning final, Horsley C of E Primary School emerged as overall winners, with Westonbirt Prep securing the runners-up position after an outstanding performance.

The afternoon final continued the high standard of competition, with Ellwood Community Primary School taking first place and Gretton Primary School earning the runners-up award.

Every team brought energy, imagination and determination to the challenge, making the judges' decisions incredibly difficult. The event highlighted how STEM activities can inspire young people to think creatively, work collaboratively and develop valuable skills for the future.

A special thank you was extended to Renishaw for hosting the finals and providing an inspiring environment for the competition. Appreciation was also given to the teachers, school staff and accompanying adults who supported the children throughout their STEM Challenge journey.

Most importantly, congratulations go to every pupil who took part. Their enthusiasm, positive attitude and willingness to embrace new challenges helped make the day a tremendous success.

As another exciting year of the Primary STEM Challenge Gloucestershire comes to a close, attention is already turning towards the 2026/27 competition. If this year's finals are anything to go by, the future of engineering, technology and innovation in Gloucestershire is incredibly bright.
