Wind Powered Vehicles

Suitable for: Years 3 – 7
Student number: up to 36
Workshop length: half to full day

Students work in teams to design and build a wind powered vehicles that they use to compete in a race.  The workshop encourages students to use a wide range of skills and knowledge.  For example, students must consider their budget, material choices, shape, structure and forces.

The extended version of the workshop incorporates a delicate passenger – an egg.  Will the students vehicle safely transport the egg?  Who will win the distance race, who will gain the advantage in the speed race?  Will the vehicle sail be strong enough?  Will it be stable?

STEMworks will provide all materials for the workshop.
